Various Chart Q&A Scenarios

Updated over 2 months ago

Editing Data on a Chart

You cannot directly edit data on a chart. To adjust the data that appears on the chart, you must goto the Input page and perform all of your edits there.

  1. Click on the Input tab in the web version of Church Metrics.

  2. Select the week and category you want to update.

  3. Enter the correct values

  4. Click Save when finished.

Your charts will refresh with the updated numbers.

Can I Delete a Date from a Chart?

Church Metrics does not allow deleting specific dates from your charts.

If a day displays a “0” due to no attendance or contribution entry, a workaround would be to enter an average or estimated number for that date to maintain visual consistency in the chart.

Can I Compare Two Years in One Graph?

Currently, Church Metrics does not offer a way to overlay two different years of attendance data (e.g., this year vs. last year) on the same line graph.

Workaround: Use Two Separate Chart Widgets

You can still compare the numbers side-by-side by adding two separate widgets on your dashboard.

See our article on Setting Up Your Dashboard to learn more about creating widgets.

Create two separate chart based widgets, selecting the time period for Last Year for one, and This Year for the other.

This will show two graphs on your dashboard — one for each year — allowing you to compare trends visually.

Tip: If you need more customization, you can export your data from Church Metrics and use tools like Excel or Google Sheets to create custom comparative charts.

Using Widgets and Charts with a Fiscal Year

Church Metrics widgets and charts are designed to display data using preset date ranges. These options include timeframes like This Week, Last Month, This Year, and similar periods. At this time, there is no way to set a fully custom date range, such as aligning reports to a fiscal year (e.g., July 1 – June 30).

Current Limitations

  • Date ranges in widgets and charts cannot be edited beyond the provided drop-down options.

  • Fiscal years or custom start/end dates are not directly supported.

Workarounds

If you need to report on a fiscal year or another non-standard date range, there is an alternative approach you can use:

Export Your Data

  1. Go to the Records tab in the left-hand menu.

  2. Click Export Data and select your desired start and end dates.

  3. Use a spreadsheet program such as Excel or Google Sheets to format and summarize the data into your fiscal year reporting period.

Why are the dates of some service times not included?

The date picker shown on the Charts and Records Tabs is created by finding the earliest date in your saved records. Only normal service times are considered.

Records saved under the Other service time are not included in the date range. If you enter earlier records under the Other service time, you may not be able to select them with the date picker.

To add a greater selectable time range

  1. Go to the Input tab.

  2. Go back to the earliest time you want to view.

  3. Select any normal service time.

  4. Save a single value of "0" under any category.

After doing so, you should now be able to go back further in the Charts calendar.
