Dashboard FAQ

Dashboard widgets in Church Metrics make it easy to see key metrics at a glance. Sometimes, though, widgets may appear blank, show incorrect numbers, or display permission errors. Below are the most common causes and solutions.

Updated this week

Pro Tip: Widgets can’t be edited after creation—delete and recreate them to change settings.

Common Issues

Widget Shows No Data or Is Blank

  • Possible Cause: The widget’s timeframe is set to This Year, which only includes data starting January 1. If no data exists for the current year, the widget will appear empty.

  • Fix:

    • Recreate the widget with a broader timeframe, such as Last 12 Months or Last Year.

    • Enter data for the current year if you want “This Year” to display results.

Widget Displays an Error (“No Data” / “You Don’t Have Permission”)

  • Possible Causes:

    • Temporary system error affecting widgets.

    • The widget is tied to a category, campus, or permission that has changed or been deleted.

    • The selected timeframe contains no data.

  • Fix:

    • Recreate the widget with the same settings to refresh it.

    • Verify that your role has permission to view the categories and campuses included.

    • Confirm that data actually exists for the timeframe you’ve selected.

3. Widget Numbers Don’t Add Up (Missing or Partial Data)

  • Possible Causes:

    • Campus or Category Filters: The widget is restricted to a single campus, category, or service.

    • Event Filter: If an event is selected during setup, the widget will only show numbers for that one event.

  • Fix:

    1. Create a new widget and check settings carefully.

      • Category: Choose Contributions, Attendance, etc.

      • Campus: Set to All if you want totals across multiple campuses.

      • Event: Leave blank unless you only want data for one event.

    2. Compare results to ensure totals now include all intended data.

Best Practices

  • Always double-check timeframe and filter settings when a widget looks wrong.

  • If a widget misbehaves, create a new one with the correct setup—it can be faster than troubleshooting an old one.

  • Use clear names like “Attendance (All Campuses)” or “Contributions (Combined)” so you can easily distinguish test widgets from old ones.

Can I change a widget's scale?

In Church Metrics, the scale for charts and graphs—such as those showing attendance in your dashboard Widgets—is set automatically by the system. The scale is determined on the back end based on your data and cannot be adjusted manually.

Workarounds

If you need to view attendance data on a different scale, consider:

  • Exporting the data to a CSV file and creating your own chart in Excel or Google Sheets where you can set a custom scale.

  • Using a report instead of a Widget, which may present the numbers in a more flexible format.

Can I Share My Dashboard with Another User?

Currently, dashboards in Church Metrics are user-specific. This means:

  • The widgets, charts, and layout you configure are saved only to your account.

  • Other users in your organization cannot see your dashboard view.

  • There is no built-in feature to copy, duplicate, or share a dashboard setup between accounts.

How to Give Others the Same Dashboard View

While you cannot directly share dashboards, you can help team members recreate yours:

  1. Share your setup details

    • Take screenshots of your dashboard.

    • Provide a list of which widgets, categories, filters, and date ranges you’re using.

  2. Have each user recreate it

    • Other users can manually add the same widgets and settings to match your layout in their own account.
